Definition:
A narrative text is a type of text that tells a factual or imaginative story in the past tense.
Jadi, teks naratif adalah jenis teks yang menceritakan kisah faktual atau imajinatif dalam bentuk lampau.

Kinds of Narrative Text:
Fairy tales, Legends, Myths, Short stories, Fables, Folktales.

Social Function / Purpose:
• Entertain or amuse the readers.
• Teach moral value.
• Change social opinion.

Generic Structure:
Orientation → Complication → Resolution.

Language Features:
• Adverb of time (once upon a time, etc)
• Specific character (Cinderella, etc)
• Direct speech
• Adjectives
• Conjunctions (however, later, etc)
• Past Tense

Lake Toba

In one village of North Sumatera, there lived a poor farmer named Toba. One day, he went fishing and caught a beautiful goldfish. When he brought it home, the fish turned into a beautiful woman.

The woman told him she was cursed and asked him to keep it a secret. Toba agreed and married her. They had a son named Samosir, who loved to eat a lot.

One day, Samosir was asked to bring lunch to his father, but he ate most of it. Toba got angry and called him a fish kid. The woman was upset that Toba broke his promise, so she and Samosir disappeared. The place turned into a vast lake called Toba Lake, with an island in the middle called Samosir Island.
